Rosemary Fletcher-Jones is quite right to be concerned about tortoises fed on a limited diet (Letters, 14 November), but fruit should be avoided or strictly limited for most species kept as pets. In addition, dandelions should only be part of a varied diet. I would direct tortoise owners to The Tortoise Table, a website that contains ample excellent advice as to how to feed them well.

• In the kids’ quiz (15 November) the question “Why is there nothing Welsh on the union jack?” received the answer “When the flag was created, Wales had been conquered by England for so long, they were considered as one.” By England perhaps – not by Cymru!
