The abandoned Big Bash League game in Geelong between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth will not be replayed.

The match at GMHBA Stadium on December 10 was called off amid farcical scenes after just 6.5 overs because of concerns over the safety of the pitch.

Water damage had made the pitch unplayable, with multiple Scorchers batters hit by deliveries before umpires stopped play.

BBL authorities confirmed on Sunday the game would not be rescheduled and both teams would receive a point each.

"The circumstances giving rise to the abandoned match remain the subject of an ongoing investigation," the BBL statement read.

"While various options to reschedule were explored, it became apparent rescheduling would be challenging due to a variety of factors, including the existing schedule across the two clubs, and limited access to venues."

Perth are favourites to claim a record third  straight BBL title, while the Renegades are winless after losing to the Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday night.
