BBCs Naga Munchetty fights back tears as she breaks news of Bill Turnbull's death

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was visibly moved on screen as she broke news of former colleague Bill Turnbull's death live on air.

Naga was hosting alongside Breakfast co-presenter Charlie Stayt when the sad news of Bill's passing reached them in the studio, with Naga reading out a statement from Bill's wife Sarah, which read: "Our lovely Billy died yesterday, almost five years after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

"The last week of his life was very special, as the whole family was with him and we shared some wonderful moments," with Naga looking tearful as she read the words in front of her.

Charlie read out the rest of the statement, before Naga recapped on the sad news to any BBC viewers who may have just tuned in, saying: "Our friend, our former colleague, breakfast presenter who many of you will be familiar with, Bill Turnbull, who we've just had the news, has died after suffering with prostate cancer."

She continued: "Of course all of us here sending love and support to Bill's family, to Cessy his wife and I think today, once we get over the shock of this, we will start remembering the really funny things Bill did. When I presented with him his energy was amazing; he came into this programme and threw everything at it, every single day.

Naga added: "He was funny when we sat here on the sofa, he was a brilliant journalist and he loved this programme and loved serving you, the audience. So I'm sure you'll miss him and we certainly will too."

Charlie then remarked: "He was a wise head but didn't take himself too seriously when he sat here, which is a great combination," before Naga gathered herself to continue with the life broadcast.
