THE BBC has been urged to come clean amid a fresh report it did not put forward a bid for the Commonwealth Games.
It was reported last week the corporation offered just £900,000 for the TV rights which was only 9% of what it paid to broadcast the Games in 2022.
The subscription channel TNT Sports provided wall-to-wall coverage after it paid around £5 million. The Warner Bros Discovery sports channel and its streaming platform HBO Max broadcast more than 600 hours of live coverage.
But the Daily Mail has now reported the BBC failed to table any kind of monetary offer at all to show the Glasgow event.
Scots became even more furious at the apparent snub from the BBC when it broadcast the European Athletics from Birmingham weeks later.
The broadcaster did secure the rights to live broadcast TV coverage of the games in Gaelic but it was the first time that the Commonwealth Games had not been shown on free-to-air English-language BBC channels since 1954.
SNP MP David Linden told The National the BBC must come clean and tell licence fee payers exactly what offer it tabled for the Games.
"When the Commonwealth Games were in Birmingham just four years ago, £10 million was spent on wall-to-wall coverage, but when the Games came to Scotland it now appears the BBC made no attempt whatsoever to cover them," he aid.
"BBC bosses must now come clean and tell Scottish licence fee payers exactly how much they bid for the broadcast rights for the Glasgow Games.
"Glasgow stepped in to host a fantastic sporting event at the last minute, but sadly most Scots missed out on the opportunity of seeing our athletes compete because the BBC and the Labour UK Government sat on their hands.
"It's hard to believe that they would have been so indifferent if the Games were on the banks of the Thames rather than the Clyde."
The Commonwealth Games is not protected on free-to-air TV like the Olympics, so subscription channels are able to come forward to claim TV rights providing highlights or delayed coverage are shown on free channel. Highlights of the Games were shown on Channel 5.
The Games were reduced in size this year to just 10 sports as Glasgow stepped in last minute to host the event following the withdrawal of the Australian state of Victoria over cost concerns.
The next staging of the event is set to be in Ahmedabad in India in 2030 where the number of sports is expected to increase back to the same level as Glasgow 2014.
The BBC has refused to provide any comment on its bid but has insisted one was put forward.
