Happy Valley actor James Norton sat down with The One Show presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas on Wednesday, January 18 to discuss the BBC drama. The popular series returned this year after almost seven years and it looks like it's been worth the wait.
The drama follows the life of police officer Catherine Cawood who is played by leading lady Sarah Lancashire. During the lastest episode, Sarah was been praised as "absolutely phenomenal" by viewers following dramatic scenes saw Sarah’s character confront her sister Clare in a cafe, for taking her grandson Ryan to visit his father Tommy Lee Royce in prison without her knowledge. Tommy Lee is played by James, and the actor recently joined Alex and Jermaine on the famous green sofa to talk all things Happy Valley. With three episodes still left air, viewers were keen to hear what the star had to say, although he wasn't able to give much away.

Asking James what it had been like to play one of the biggest villains on TV at the moment, he said: "I mean, I kind of love it. For a long time I felt like I should say how kind of troubling… and how much it cost me to play. But the truth is, it’s really fun."
He added: "Obviously the really despicable stuff and the violence is complicated. But the feeling of wandering around in that boiler suit and people giving you a wide berth, that doesn’t happen to me in real life, you’d be surprised to hear. So it’s incredibly empowering and I kind of love it."
The One Show was also able to get a brief clip of Tommy getting a haircut in prison. "It seems like there must be a moment coming, because the look in Tommy's eye is a bit intense and a haircut sometimes signifies something," Alex said. Jermaine added that it could signify the character "shedding his skin."
But James wasn't ready to reveal any spoilers for what was in store, saying: "Maybe he just likes getting pampered, getting his glam on." James revealed that the man cutting his hair in the scene was a barber called Gaz who worked in Manchester, saying that they let the cameras roll while he got a haircut and the scene was filmed for around 40 minutes.
But despite the insight, many viewers were left distracted by James' outfit and took to Twitter to comment. "Is James Norton wearing the longest men’s socks ever?" wrote one fan, while another responded: "I'm wondering if they are tights?"
And a third asked: "What is James Norton wearing? #TheOneShow," before adding: "Possibly long sheer socks, is this a thing?" For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
