Presenters on The One Show were stunned into silence on Wednesday night as guest star Dan Stevens made a ruthless comment about Prime Minister Boris Johnson, leaving viewers in shock. Both Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas looked visibly uncomfortable and were reeling after the remarks.
The British actor was on the sofa to discuss his latest drama based on the Watergate scandal. He didn’t hold back as he made an attack on the PM, only a day after the Tory leader was fined £50 for breaking lockdown rules by attending a party, Yorkshire Live reports.
Dan was chatting to presenters Alex and Jermaine and appeared to describe his new film when he said: “What you’ve got is a criminal for a leader who is wrapped up in a messy war, embroiled in a stupid scandal and surrounded by ambitious idiots and really should resign … I’m sorry that’s the intro to Boris Johnson, I've just said the intro to Boris Johnson."

It's fair to say The One Show viewers were also blindsided by it, with many split on the controversial take. Will Batchelor said: "For me, Jermaine has to do better here. The fancy Dan is doing a clear bait-and-switch, an experienced presenter has got all the time in the world to get a word in, but he just strolls through and releases the punchline, unchallenged. Shoddy defending for a pair of seasoned pros."
Jane Rackham said: "Doubt Dan will be invited back on BBC - even though he’s saying what the majority of the nation are thinking."
Nick Rochford said: "It’s funny and true. But what’s shocking is that how shockingly rebellious and outre this is. We should be a democracy and have free speech. Rather than it being embarrassingly covered up or apologised for."
Martin Greenaway said: "Jermaine Jenas hasn't quite got the live TV poker face nailed has he? Though to be fair that was an absolute peach of a setup."
