BBC The Apprentice viewers left stunned after huge blunder is branded 'worst ever failure' on the show

Viewers of The Apprentice were left gobsmacked on Thursday night after witnessing a huge blunder.

The BBC One show returned for the fourth episode, where 12 out of the original 16 candidates remain in the running for Lord Alan Sugar's £250,000 investment

During last week's show the entrepreneurs were split into two mixed-sex teams and were tasked with creating and marketing their own alcohol-free drink.

This week, the candidates were summoned to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich for their briefing by Lord Sugar.

Before announcing the next challenge, Lord Sugar asked Alex Short, 27, to move over to the opposing team to 'even them out' after Conor Gilsenan was fired and Shama Amin left due to medical reasons.

The billionaire then announced the candidates would be entering the choppy waters of the fish industry, tasked with sourcing a catch of the day and creating a fish dish to sell to the public.

They would also be selling to a major corporate client, with the team who made the biggest overall profit set to win.

But it was in fact a blunder on Alex Short's new team named 'Infinity' that caused the team to lose.

After Alex took on the role of project manager, the team decided on crab as their catch of the day.

Whilst three of his teammates went out out to sea in Cornwall to catch their prime dish, Alex, Kathryn Burn and Akshay Thakrar stayed in London to try convince the corporate client to buy into their fish produce.

But it was here when Alex and his co-sellers made a huge mistake, forgetting to offer their catch of the day, the crab, to the client.

After leaving the meeting, Lord Sugar's advisor Baroness Karren Brady, who was keeping an eye on team Infinity, said: "They came here to a five star hotel to sell fish, but they forgot to offer their catch of the day, their crab.

"What on earth were they thinking?".

And viewers were also left stunned that the candidates forgot such an important detail.

"You forgot to mention the crab that you’ve had the sub team catching on a boat in the middle of nowhere?" one viewer wrote.

"He really forgot to mention crab, he lost in the first 20 mins," @flyguyrichards said.

"This team has lost already. 70kg of crab and they forgot to offer it to the corporate client?," another questioned.

It was later in the boardroom that Lord Alan Sugar called this blunder the 'worst ever failure' he'd seen.

"This is without a doubt the worst failure I've ever seen in this boardroom," Lord Sugar said.

"I sent you out to get a catch of the day, and you didn't sell it."

Team Infinity were the losers of this task, as they made the least profit and many costly mistakes.

As a result, this caused project manager Alex to be the latest candidate fired by Lord Sugar.

Just 11 candidates are now left to compete for the life-changing investment in their business.
