BBC The Apprentice: Former winner’s brilliant response to the first episode taking place in Antigua

Former Apprentice winner Ricky Martin has responded after finding out that this year’s candidates spent the first episode in Antigua. The Apprentice returned to BBC for its 17th series on Thursday, January 5. During the first episode, the candidates were set the task of selling and running bespoke tours.

Taking to Twitter, Ricky wrote: “Imagine being told you were going to go to Antigua on the first task of #TheApprentice - Bloody hell I only went to Edinburgh.” Former wrestler Ricky won the eighth series of the show in 2012.

Ricky wasn’t the only one who was surprised by the lavish location of the first episode. Several others took to social media to share their thoughts.

One person wrote in response to Ricky: “worked out in the end though,” referring to the success that he has achieved since winning the series. A second person commented: “Antigua?? They’re lucky,” equally baffled by the setting of the first episode.

“Antigua on a task, normally they go to Brixton and sell fish to locals. #TheApprentice” wrote a third person and a fourth added: “Antigua doesn't deserve this. Poor folks…”

In The Apprentice, a group of businesspeople compete in a series of business-related challenges set by Lord Sugar in a bid to win a £250,000 investment. It airs on BBC One on Thursdays at 9pm. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
