Kym Marsh has shared her Strictly Come Dancing partner's own family tragedy which also inspired their emotional routine in the ballroom this weekend. The former Coronation Street star was in tears on Saturday night after performing a moving dance in memory of her late son, Archie.
Kym went through the devastating loss of baby Archie, with her ex-husband Jamie Lomas, at 21 weeks of pregnancy. During the latest show, a tearful Kym dedicated her and dance partner Graziano Di Prima's American Smooth Foxtrot to the Snow Patrol ballad Chasing Cars to Archie, who died shortly after his birth in 2009.
Explaining the importance of their routine in a VT aired before she and Graziano took to the dancefloor, Kym said: "It might get people talking about their experience." She added: "It's the right road to putting your life back together."
After getting their feedback from the judges, Kym, who was supported in the studio audience by her husband Scott Ratcliff and parents David and Pauline, and Graziano climbed the stairs and reflected on their dance with Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman and a visibly moved Kym admitted to making a mistake which was picked up by the panel.
She admitted: "I made some silly mistakes but it was whole emotion of the evening that got to me." And Graziano reassured: "You were brilliant. I'm so proud of you."
But prior to their performance on Saturday night, Kym, 46, also shared how their was a personal heartache behind Graziano making their latest routine even more emotional. The former Hear'Say star said Graziano and his family have also felt the excruciating pain of losing a loved one and that it is something they 'have in common'.
She told The Sun : "It’s something else Graziano and I have in common. People don’t realise he was a twin but sadly they lost his twin at birth. So this weekend is for Archie, and also for Stefano, his brother. And we’re going to give it everything we can in their memory."
Also speaking about her own loss of Archie, Kym told the publication: "He'd be 13 years old now, a teenager. I can hardly believe it. In some ways it feels a long time has passed but in others it’s still very raw and vivid.
"But baby loss is a subject very close to my heart and something I have talked about many times, because the impact and the pain of that experience never leaves you. Dancing to that song will be hard, but it’s always been important to me to keep him in our memories."
On Sunday night Strictly viewers discovered that Kym and Graziano had made it through to another week in the competition and not just any week as the show will be heading to Blackpool for week nine of the BBC One dance competition at the weekend. Sharing a photo of them celebrating in the empty ballroom, the pair wrote: "TEAM MARSHIANO ARE GOING TO BLACKPOOL!! Yeeeeesss!!!"
They added: "Thank you all so so much for your support you are helping us to live a dream that week by week is coming true. You don’t know how much we are appreciate that, mean the absolute. Thank youuuuuu!!"
