BBC Strictly's It Takes Two turns awkward as Tony Adams reveals Katya told him he 'deserved' low scores

The latest episode of It Takes Two appeared to turn a little frosty when Tony Adams revealed that his Strictly Come Dancing partner Katya Jones told him his 'deserved' his latest low scores. The former footballer returned to the ballroom on Saturday night (October 22) alongside Katya.

The pair danced the cha-cha to the Grandstand theme tune during the live show as the BBC One dance contest dedicated its latest episode to the BBC as it celebrated its century. Despite his best efforts on the dance floor, Tony did find himself at the bottom of the leaderboard with 19 points.

And head judge Shirley Ballas had some bolstering words for the former England and Arsenal footballer during her critique of the uplifting performance. She told him: "I love you dearly. Keep going because you're what the show is all about." But as Tony, 54, climbed the stairs to join Claudia Winkleman and receive his score, he looked unimpressed as Shirley help up her 4 paddle.

With a dismissive wave of his arm, he yelled out: "Shirley, go home." Strictly viewers were left in stitches and claimed Tony's outburst was the 'highlight of the night'. And when appearing on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two on Thursday night (October 27) host Janette Manrara asked him: "The judges were lost for words...what did you make of the comments?"

He replied: "I think it was a mechanism. Because I knew I didn't really get it." Addressing his response, Tony continued: "When they started making comments I got a bit reactive. It is no disrespect to them it is just my way of going 'go away.' I'm a beginner and at times I don't do the right moves and stuff."

But things didn't appear to get any more positive for the pair. "Scores were not the highest, we got 19,” Janette then said to Katya and Tony when discussing their latest routine. "We’re back at the bottom," Katya remarked before Tony weighed in with Katya’s remarks to him behind the scenes.

"She said I got what I deserved," Tony recalled. "That’s what she said." A surprised Jannette then turned to Katya and asked: "Is that what you told him?” as Tony let out a giggle amid the tense atmosphere. "You’ve got to…" Katya began to reply. "You’ve got to admit you did go wrong!"

Taking his partner’s criticism, Tony replied: "I did, I did. It’s fair enough." Janette then tried to soften Katya’s blow as she interjected: “She’s a tough cookie, Katya… But she’s only giving you tough love because she knows you can do it."

"Exactly," Katya agreed before Janette continued to quiz: "Was there ever a point when you’re waiting there Katya, where (you think), ‘Oh, my God, we’re in the dance-off, we need to start preparing ourselves to do it again’?" And Katya again didn't hold back as she said: "Yeah every single week. It’s true."

But Tony made it clear that he know it's the support of the public that is getting him through each week as he prepared for the Halloween special on Saturday night. "The public are dragging me through at the moment and there might become a point where they might forget to vote so I might have to improve a bit more," he said.
