It Takes Two viewers were left fuming at host Janette Marara for her 'cruel' move towards on of Strictly Come Dancing's professional dancers. The dancer and BBC One dance contest's former pro was back at the helm of the spin-off show on Wednesday (December 7).
She was joined on the set by Vito Coppola who has earned plenty of praise and admiration from viewers after joining the competition for its 20th series this year having been partnered with Hits Radio host Fleur East. Before being joined by his celebrity dance partner to chat about their quarter-final performance and look ahead to the penultimate week in the competition, the Italian dancer appeared solo with Janette.
That's because Vito was finding out the results of his performance in It Takes Two's Strictly Pro Challenge which returned last month. The challenge invites the show's professionals to set a new Guinness World Record for the most dance steps in 30 seconds. Karen Hauer was the first to find out how she did and there was drama she had all her moves disqualified.
And the tension hasn't stopped as Neil Jones suffered a shocker when he performed 26 steps only for them all to be disqualified, leading to him jokingly threatening to write to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom to complain. So far, its Strictly's newest pro Lauren Oakley who is topping the leaderboard.
But during the latest episode of ITT it was Vito's turn to learn his fate. After viewers saw Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood and a Guinness World Record official monitoring Vito as he completed the challenge, it was soon time to cross back to the studio where Janette was on hand to reveal where Vito had placed in the leaderboard.
"Vito I can reveal in 30 seconds you completed 18 steps," she confirmed and Vito was clearly thrilled as he broke out into a huge smile and threw his hands in the air in excitement as it meant he was top of the leaderboard. However, Janette cut the celebrations shorts and revealed there were "some disqualifications".
"I can reveal that you had five disqualifications which gives you 13th and put's you joint fifth," Janette said as Vito's faced dropped at the news. But while it wasn't as bad a performance as some of Vito's fellow pro dancers, fans were angry at Janette for building Vito up before 'tearing him down' and leaving him "devastated".
@s_ffron7 tweeted: "That was harsh, poor Vito! #ItTakesTwo #ITT #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing #ProChallenge." @Ariadne_Reviews posted: "Not Janette building Vito up only to tear him back down #itt #ItTakesTwo," alongside a crying emoji. @Fomo1911 commented: "#ItTakesTwo how mean were you to Vito in the Pro Challenge? 18! Yay…….oh no, 5 disqualifications. Mean."
@lovelylisaj shared: "Getting in the queue to comfort Vito after that. So mean! #ItTakesTwo." @karlfun88 said: "Omg Vito’s poor little face when Janette told him he had disqualifications #ittakestwo." @ScottishEleanor typed: "Awwww @JManrara @bbcstrictly that so cruel!!! Poor Vito #ProsChallenge #ItTakesTwo #HisWeeFace." @Norfolk_Kez added: "Oh @JManrara that was so harsh on poor @Vito__Coppola - you even high fived him!! #Strictly #ItTakesTwo."
