BBC Strictly fans in tears as they spot emotional tribute during special BBC 100th anniversary routine

Strictly Come Dancing fans were feeling emotional as they watched a joyful and unusual start to Saturday night's live show. In a change from the usual proceedings the show started with an uplifting montage for the BBC's 100th anniversary.

As the celeb contestants prepared to take to the dancefloor to perform to a selection of the BBC's most iconic theme tunes, the professional dancers staged a treat in the form of a montage. The heart-warming opening minutes featured some of the broadcaster's most popular shows and presenters.

Newsreader Huw Edwards appeared in the introduction as if he was presenting the news, saying: "Some breaking news, Strictly Come Dancing appears to be taking over the BBC with a feast of sequins and salsas, Strictly has been celebrating the BBC's 100th birthday. But some of us are too busy to dance, we have very serious work to do."

The camera then zoomed out to reveal a ukulele, which he picked up saying: "Do you know what this is? This was named after me. It's a Huwkulele!" The celebrations also featured appearances from Paddy McGuinness, Ugo Monye and Sam Quek joining in the fun dancing with giant pink feathers, a routine on the set of EastEnders including former Strictly contestant Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell, and performances from Children In Need's Pudsey Bear and drumming weatherman Owain Wyn Evans.

Fans of the long-running BBC dance contest, which launched in 2004 and is now in its 20th series, were emotional as they spotted a clip of the show's late host Sir Bruce Forsyth beamed on the big screen in the studio. The clip showed Sir Bruce, who hosted the show with Tess Daly until 2013 and passed away aged 89 in 2017, dancing with BBC broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan, who died in 2016 aged 77.
