BBC Strictly fans complain about 'distracting' detail as show returned to Blackpool

On Saturday night Blackpool rocked as Strictly Come Dancing returned to the seaside resort. After three years away, the remaining Strictly couples took to the dancefloor at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

The celebs and their pro dance partners danced with the aim of impressing the judges Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and head judge Shirley Ballas as well as the voting public. The show opened with a stunning group dance extravaganza, complete with rain ponchos in a cheeky nod to the weather, celebrating Strictly’s long awaited return to the home of ballroom.

However, as the stars lit up of the ballroom with their week nine routines many viewers took to Twitter to complain about an 'off-putting' detail. Fans complained that the addition of extra professional dancers to their performance was 'distracting' from the performances.

@mikepriestley13 tweeted: "I feel the extra dancers aren’t needed they get in the way #Strictly." And @Gillian22732531 said: "I found the supporting dancers off putting."

@neilchisnall pleaded: "Please lose the extra dancers. Just a distraction for me." And @sneakydenim joked: "If someone is in the dance off does that mean the extra dancers have to dance with them too?"

However other fans thought the extra dancers worked, particularly on Fleur East and Vito Coppola's Destiny's Child megamix routine which saw them rake in the maximum 40 points. @MillieSansoye said: "Fleur got 40 because she accepted and lived up to the role of lead dancer among professionals. She smashed it."

@shaunadennett09 said: "Sorry but anyone moaning about the extra dancers tonight - they always have them at Blackpool and please I’d love to see you learn every single dance AND perform them one after the other with costume changes! Huge love and props to them - fantastic." And @SuzeBHarrison said: "The backing dancers at #Blackpool are such a distraction on #Strictly but I get it’s a big floor and they may need it."
