Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell was shown support after she commented on a tear-jerking video Tyler West posted following his exit from the BBC One dance contest. The pair became the eighth couple to be eliminated from the competition following an epic return to Blackpool on Saturday night.
It is the first time in three years that the BBC's flagship show headed back to the iconic Tower Ballroom for the annual special after Covid restrictions kept them away for the last two series. Tyler
Following Saturday’s live show, the Kiss FM DJ found himself in the dreaded dance-off against Molly Rainford. During the results show, which aired on Sunday night after being pre-recorded straight after the live edition, he reprised his salsa to Megamix by KC and The Sunshine Band alongside his partner Dianne in a bid to impress the judges.
For the original routine on Saturday, Tyler secured a score of 35 after grooving and performing challenging lifts while donning an afro wig and flared trousers. Meanwhile, singer and actress Molly Rainford and her partner Carlos Gu again performed their jive to Bandstand Boogie by Barry Manilow, which had also achieved 35 points previously.
After both couples had danced for a second time, three out of the four judges chose to save Molly and Carols, who found themselves in the dreaded dance off for a third time. Reflecting on his time on the show with co-host Tess Daly, Tyler said: "I'm more than a two-step now! When you watch the show at home, you wonder what it must be like to dance on it, it’s everything and more, it’s changed my life.
"This girl here has changed my life, for sure. To think I was some shy kid who never used to talk to anyone, to dancing in front of millions, I can’t put it into words. It’s my mum’s favourite show, I bought her to Blackpool, my nan, bless her, was always watching over me on this journey.
"But, more importantly, this show has changed my life in the sense it’s given me confidence, a new-found family, every dancer, everyone in hair and make-up, costume. The judges, it’s been amazing to dance in front of you every week, I genuinely mean that." And turning to his dance partner, Tyler added: "This girl here, I have been blessed with the best, she is what Strictly is about and she’s changed my life, I have no doubt she will be in in my life forever."
After the Strictly results were revealed on-screen on Sunday evening, Tyler took to Instagram with a series of photo of himself and Dianne from throughout their two months in the hit competition. "And just like that our @bbcstrictly journey has come to an end," the 26-year-old typed.
"We are gutted but soo grateful. We have loved every single second dancing each week. But most of all we wanted to say the biggest thankyou for all of your support to get us this far, it genuinely means the world. We danced Blackpool!!! Shoutout to the best crew, everyone BTS to make the show what it is, so grateful that we get to be part of that. It’s an unreal feeling going out there each week - a feeling we are truly going to miss, thankyou for being part of our Strictly 22’ #tydi."
He than gave another special mention, finishing his post: "Special thanks to our Ciazza. @ciaranfoley01 The best runner we could’ve asked for, One of the most talented in showbiz, anyone would be lucky to have him." Tyler also shared a follow-up post which made fans emotional, featuring clips from his and Dianne's Strictly journey from behind-the-scenes moments to more personal exchanges with Tyler and his mum which featured during their couple's choice routine earlier in the series.
"Someone’s been chopping onions around me, corrr it’s a tough one tonight," radio star Tyler wrote. "@bbcstrictly you have been the greatest! Dancing each week infront of millions, no doubt a highlight of my life. Even better, blessed with the best that is @diannebuswell.
"Bruh you’ve taught me so much, been the biggest support and have made this whole experience more than I could ever imagine. Squeezed every hour out of our weeks, put up with my sweaty overheating self and taught me how to properly dance. Thankyou doesn’t come close, I’m forever grateful you made a dream of mine and my nannas come true. You the best and again, thankyou to everyone who voted for us."
But on the first post, Dianne simply wrote: "Absolutely gutted," and was quickly flooded with read heart emojis and supportive response following her Strictly exit. @sammyhansburyx said: "You should be so proud of yourselves you didn’t deserve to leave. always supporting you endlessly."
