Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal have been crowned the winners of Strictly Come Dancing 2022. The news was announced following a spectacular grand final on Saturday night (December 17).
The pair fought off stiff competition from Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez, Fleur East and Vito Coppola and Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu to take the title for the 20th series and lift the coveted Glitterball trophy.
After the three performance scores have been given, Fleur and Vito received a total score of 119 points while Helen and Gorka bagged 116 points. Molly and Carlos received a total of 115 points, while Hazma Yassin and Jowita place bottom with 113 points.
However, it was the public vote that ultimately decided who were crowned champions and who was given the winners title this year and despite their lower combined score on the night, that was Hamza and Jowita.
Upon being crowned winner, a tearful Hamza broke into tears as Jowita, who has won with her first-ever celebrity partner on the show, screamed and jumped up and down. Asked for his initial thoughts from hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the wildwilfe cameraman said: "Words can’t describe how I feel."
Turning to his dance partner, he told Jowita, whose parents had flown from Poland to be in the live audience: "You are an angel disguised as a human being. You’re amazing." He then added: "This is the best thing that has ever happened to me."
And Strictly fans were quick to flock to social media and comment on Hamza's win. @Blowpobbs tweeted: "Congratulations to Hamza and Jowita! You thoroughly deserved that! Whoohooo! #Strictly." @Chris_1987 said: "One thing I love about #Strictly is people with pretty much no dancing background win, such a worthy winner well done Hamza."
@MeganLowri98 posted: "Well done @HamzaYassin3. Absolutely deserved. The Animal Park star headed into the final as favourite to win, taking over the reigning champions title from 2021 winners Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.
