BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans distracted mid-way through results show after spotting 'star' seconds in

Strictly Come Dancing fans experienced a rollercoaster of different emotions as they tuned into the latest results show. It was time to discover which couple would be bowing out of the BBC One dance contest on Sunday night (October 30) following Saturday's Spooktacular Halloween special.

There were tears in the ballroom when James Bye became the fifth celebrity to be voted off Strictly 2022 alongside professional dance partner Amy Dowden. It came after the EastEnders actor found himself in the dreaded dance-off against Fleur East

The soap star, who has played Martin Fowler in the BBC One soap for eight years, lost out to the singer and broadcaster and her professional partner Vito Coppola after his Charleston to Bumble Bee by LaVern Baker.

The routine saw James, 38, dressed as a beekeeper while Welsh dancer Amy performed while dressed as a bee. But the pair placed bottom of the scoreboard and had to re-perform the routine in the dance-off while Fleur and Vito reprised their salsa routine to Beyonce’s Break My Soul.

After both couples had danced for the second time, it was a unanimous decision by the judges to save Fleur, for a second time so far this series, and send James home.

And there were tears as co-host Tess Daly reminded James of one of his goals while appearing on the programme, which was to make his three sons proud. "Don't tell me that Tess," he said starting to cover his face.

But Tess, 53, insisted: "I think it's safe to say you've done that. You really have." Becoming overwhelmed James said again: "Don't say that," as Tess apologised at having made the star emotional. Amy also felt James' emotional bite when she also praised her partner, saying: “You came on here to show your boys they can throw themselves into any challenge in life, and you are the best role model they could ever have as their daddy. I am so proud of you."

But aside from the dance-off and its final result, Strictly viewers were flocking to social media after being distracted mid-way through the 40-minute show. It came during a performance from singer Rina Sawayama who sang her single This Hell.

While some were unsure as to who the performer was, and questioned her performance, others were impressed that she did her own routine alongside the show's professional dancers. However, there was someone who may have stolen the limelight.

@sewfairy said: "Neil best part of that performance......never heard of her!" But @missfee0885 commented: "Loved that! Great to see Neil dancing too." @antsm2205 wrote: "So miss Neil in the actual comp." @spencerdilys added: "Neil Jones needs to be one of the pro dancers."

But fans had already spotted the 'star' of the results show just seconds in. The programme opened with a spellbinding routine from the Strictly professionals that told the cautionary tale of Icarus. Nikita Kumzin led the routine alongside Katya Jones and Vito but all eyes were on the Ukrainian dancer.

@loobylou65 said: "That was fabulous. Nikita is really becoming a star, deservedly so." @diana.sargeant.71 commented: "Fantastic routine as always pro dancer's, Nikita was amazing as they all are." @bmmlawson04 wrote: "Who else thinks nikita should be lead alot more he is fabulous and so natural @nikita__kuzmin."@sarahlaytonmcghie added: "@nikita__kuzmin how amazing are you though. Love seeing you front and centre... Right where your amazing talent belongs."
