Huw Edwards says he wants to become the new Piers Morgan and land major celebrity interviews.
The BBC news presenter said he would love to do a show such as ITV ’s Life Stories, which Morgan hosted.
He said: “I’d love to do big interviews but they have got bloody Amol Rajan doing these things on BBC2.
“They work, they are good interviews. But breaking into that is not easy. I’d like to do what Piers used to do, like Life Stories, you can get to find out what made them as a person.”
Morgan used to present the ITV chat show until 2021. His departure came months after the former Good Morning Britain anchor was forced from the show in the wake of his row over the Duchess of Sussex.
GMB co-star Kate Garraway has since replaced him.
Speaking at the industry Tric Awards, Huw also revealed his fears about broadcasting with AI.
“AI’s a bit of a nightmare. I know there are lots of good things to it. I’m not being a dinosaur but it’s unregulated. It’s like the wild west and it will take jobs over easily. If you’re a specialist like a science analyst, that can’t be left to AI, but AI will be part of your research gathering.”
