Beth Mead is a huge favourite to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year when the ceremony takes place tonight.
It’s been a memorable 2022 for the England and Arsenal forward, playing a leading role in the Lionesses’ Euros triumph, and as a result is expected to pick up the award won by Emma Raducanu 12 months ago.
Also on the six-person shortlist are Ben Stokes, after he led England to World Cup glory and helped transform the Test side’s fortunes, and Ronnie O’Sullivan, who picked up his seventh world title.
