BBC's Alex Scott left emotional on screen as England beat Sweden 4-0 to reach Euros final

Alex Scott struggled to keep hold of her emotions in the BBC studio after England reached the Euros final with a sensational 4-0 victory over Sweden.

Alex played for her country 140 times, including at the 2012 Olympics, before retiring in 2017 and going onto receive an MBE later that year. She has been at the heart of the BBC 's hosting team for this year's Euros tournament, with her and Ian Wright captured celebrating wildly behind the scenes as England scored in extra time against Spain last week to make Tuesday's semi final.

A hard task awaited the Lionesses in the semi, with opponents Sweden ranked second in the world and England only getting the better of them three times before prior to kick off. However, although there was a bit of a nervy start from the home side, by the time the final whistle blew, there was no denying it was their night, after a first half opener from Beth Mead and second half goals from Lucy Bronze, Alessio Russo and Fran Kirby sealed the emphatic win.

Lead presenter Gabby Logan likened the atmosphere inside Bramall Lane to a nightclub and after scenes of the England players singing and dancing to Sweet Caroline, played out on screen, cameras cut back to Gabby and the pundits in the studio, with her coming to Alex first for her verdict.

And One Show Alex was happy to admit she was finding it hard not to be overcome with emotion at what she just witnessed and how much it would mean to everyone involved with the England squad. The ex Strictly star said: "You know what Gabby? It's hard for me not to get emotional right now, because the amount of investment and everything that has gone into the women's game is for a moment...for this team to get to Wembley is something special.

She added: "They deserve absolutely every accolade that is coming their way. Everybody involved in women's football have been waiting for this moment, it's special."
