BBC release Strictly Come Dancing TV figures after making major changes for 2026 series

  • The first live show of the 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing drew a peak audience of five million viewers and an average of 4.8 million on BBC One, making it the most-watched programme of the night.
  • The broadcast marked the hosting debut of Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe, who replaced long-serving presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman with a revised format across the stage and balcony.
  • Social media star John Nellis and professional partner Katya Jones secured the top spot on the leaderboard with 31 points for their foxtrot, receiving high praise from judges Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Craig Revel Horwood.
  • Three couples finished tied at the bottom of the standings with 15 points, including actress Melanie Walters, former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey.
  • With no public vote or elimination taking place during the opening live episode, all contestants will return to perform during next week's Movie Week special on BBC One.
