BBC Radio 2's Ken Bruce says he's leaving earlier than expected as he's replaced by Vernon Kay

Fans of Ken Bruce's BBC Radio 2 show were left devastated by the news that his last BBC Radio 2 show will air next Friday, rather than the end of March.

On Friday it was confirmed that Ken will be replaced by Vernon Kay. The well-known TV presenter will take over in May following the announcement last month that Scottish broadcasting veteran Bruce would be stepping down from presenting his mid-morning show on the station after 31 years.

Bruce will present his final 9.30am to midday show on March 3, the BBC confirmed on Friday. However, he has issued a statement on Twitter on Friday evening suggesting he is leaving earlier than he had intended, the Mirror reports.
