Regular listeners of Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 Breakfast show were left confused this morning when the star was absent from her slot due to illness.
Zoe, 52, had informed followers on Twitter that Vernon Kay had been forced to help out as she would not be hosting her programme because she’s been struck down with covid.
Fans rushed to send best wishes to the former It Takes Two presenter after she gave her health update and thanked Vernon for stepping in, as reports the Mirror.
Breaking the news to her 400,000 followers, Zoe revealed: "So I’ve got covid…
“But good news is ya man @vernonkay is looking after y’all @BBCRadio2,” she added with a Face with Medical Mask emoji.
“Back soon," she added hopefully.
Pals and colleagues from the industry, as well as fans, showed support for the mum-of-one.
Rylan Clark wrote: “Noooooooooo,” while musician Tom Bertram wrote: “Feel better soon.” [sic]
“Hope you’re ok lovely,” Louise Redknapp said with a heart emoji.
“Really will miss you get well soon. Love Vernon though as well… Proper northern legend,” a fan penned. [sic]
It may have been a last minute change to schedule but former Family Fortunes host Vernon has stepped in for Zoe before and he’s had plenty of practice on the airwaves - having hosted his own show on Radio 1 for almost a decade until 2012, and a Radio X programme between 2015 and 2017.
Dad-of-two Vernon also informed his followers of the schedule change.
“Couple of mornings on @BBCRadio2 coming up!!” He revealed.
Get well quickly @ZoeTheBall 5am wake up’s play havoc with the eye bags!!" joked the star, before adding to Radio 2's listeners "See you tomorrow from 6.30AM."
Zoe took over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show from Chris Evans in 2019 and has been a favourite at the station ever since.
Last week listeners were stunned when Scots stalwart Ken Bruce announced he was leaving after 31 years.
Ken announced he would be leaving to join rival station Greatest Hits and he joined the likes of Vanessa Feltz, Graham Norton and Nicky Campbell out the door, with many of the station's major stars leaving over the last two years.
An official announcement on the BBC Radio 2 twitter page reads: "We have some news… After 31 years of presenting the 9:30am-midday weekday show Ken Bruce has decided to leave.
"We’re going to miss you lots Ken and want to congratulate you on a fantastic career at the BBC."
