BBC Queen of Oz: Cast, plot and how to watch new Catherine Tate comedy series

Fans of Catherine Tate can hardly contain their excitement as the 53-year-old’s latest comedy offering, Queen of Oz, hits our screens. In the new series Catherine, who is also one of the show’s writers, plays a fictional member of the British Royal Family who is sent to rule over Australia.

Catherine’s new series comes at a busy time for the actress and comedy star. Later this year she’ll reprise the role of Donna Noble in a series of special episodes for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary opposite David Tennant - read more about that here.

What is the plot of Queen of Oz?

The official synopsis for the series reads: “Princess Georgiana (Georgie) is the ‘spare to the British throne’ but her party girl lifestyle and constant public scandals threaten the monarchy's future.

“In an effort to get her as far away from London as possible, and at the same time, hoping to prevent Australia from leaving the Commonwealth, Georgie's parents send her off to Australia to become their Queen, along with her new staff - director of communications Zoe, private secretary Bernard, head of security Marc, personal assistant Matthew, lady in waiting Anabel, and master of the household, Weiwei.”

How can you watch Queen of Oz?

All six episodes of Queen of Oz are now available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Alternatively, the series will be airing weekly with the first episode airing at 9.30pm on BBC One on Friday, June 16.
