BBC presenter says he doesn’t own a TV and won’t watch the news

  • Clive Myrie, the BBC News presenter and Mastermind host, has revealed he does not own a television set in his north London home.
  • He and his wife, Catherine, prefer to watch programmes on a laptop from bed, as he believes TVs "suck the energy out of a room".
  • Despite his career in news, Myrie said he does not watch the news himself, opting instead for news documentaries and radio current affairs shows.
  • Myrie has had a 37-year career at the BBC, known for presenting BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten, as well as the quiz show Mastermind .
  • He is not alone among BBC personalities in this preference, with Claudia Winkleman and Paloma Faith also having previously said they do not own televisions.
