BBC presenter Clare Frisby has thanked a "quick-thinking" van driver after a near-miss on the A64 this morning.
The 55-year-old was driving along the motorway near the Copmanthorpe junction outside of York at 4am when she was met with frantic light flashing from a fellow motorist. She said the driver's action alerted her to a car driving down the wrong side of the carriageway and prevented a potentially serious accident while on her way to work.
The mum-of-two has described the near-miss as "scary" and "unnerving" and said she was incredibly grateful to the van driver who had flashed his lights. Keen to thank him through the power of social media, Clare shared her experience on Twitter, in the hopes of reaching him.

She tweeted: "My sincere thanks to the quick thinking van driver on the A64 Copmanthorpe junction at 4am who averted a serious incident when a car driving the wrong way down the westbound carriageway was heading straight for me. His frantic light flashing gave me enough time to take action."
Clare's followers were quick to send their well-wishes and shared their own traffic nightmares. Matthew Davis commented: "Oh Clare this happened to me on the A64 in Leeds a few years ago near the Go Outdoors.
"I was going into Leeds and a car racing towards me on the wrong carriageway, I only just avoided it and had delayed shock, take care today thank god for the quick thinking van driver!
Frank-Sidebottom said: "Bloody hell Clare. Did the car driver realise and turn round? How on earth did the car manage to get their directions so wrong? Glad you are ok!"
To which Clare replied: "I can only think the car driver got confused on the junction - the vehicle ended up on the grass .. that was my last image as it speed past me … very near miss."
Tracey Sharp wrote: "Good grief I’m so relieved you’re safe but just take time as you may have delayed shock. I was on that junction Tuesday when someone was most confused on it!! Hugs x"
Clare thanked her for her comment and admitted: "It was an unnerving moment."
