BBC One pulls TV schedule as Queen's doctors say they are 'concerned for her health'

The BBC has cleared its scheduled programming following the announcement that the Queen was under medical supervision on Thursday afternoon - and since the news, BBC presenters, including Huw Edwards, have all changed into black suits.

The BBC had to be cut short its midday show for a news special as the monarch was said to be under supervision at Balmoral, after doctors became concerned for her health.

The broadcast was interrupted during Bargain Hunt, as a BBC newsreader confirmed: "Welcome to viewers on BBC One. We have had news from Buckingham Palace that the Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral."

She then detailed concern for the Monarch's health, and the news remained on air instead of returning to usual programming.

Her family members were revealed to have been informed of the situation, with relatives soon making their way to Balmoral.

The palace had released a statement at the time, confirming the news that was shared on the BBC.

Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement on the Queen's health today to say that she remains comfortable and is staying at Balmoral, and is not in hospital.

The statement said: "Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

Huw Edwards continued helming the coverage alongside the BBC ’s Royal Editor Nicholas Witchell, both of whom were wearing black suits and ties as they discussed the worrying situation.

While the BBC scrapped programming, other channels including ITV and Channel 4 remained with regular schedules.

The BBC kept up news coverage on the situation, while ITV did cover the announcement during their lunchtime news.

It comes after channels, including the ITV show Loose Women, similarly changed schedules to make way for the announcement of who would be the next Prime Minister on Monday afternoon.

The topical chat show Loose Women was due to start at 12:30pm but viewers saw the cameras cut to a studio with Conservative parties banners, with the breaking news segment put in place in order to give the public live coverage of the next Prime Minister being announced.
