BBC News suffers second on air blunder in two days as studio plunges into darkness

BBC News has suffered its second technical blunder in two days after the studio suddenly went dark.

A broadcaster, Dave Edwards, was presenting the morning news when the studio was suddenly plunged into darkness.

On BBC's breakfast bulletin, Look North, Dave introduced the show at the beginning of the day before everything went wrong.

He began: "Good morning from Look North, hope you're well, these are our main stories this morning."

Dave barely had a moment to read the headlines when the lights suddenly went off.

Ever the professional, he tried to continue reading the teleprompter as normal.

He joked: "Oh, we need to put a few coins in the meter I think."

The technical blunder comes one day after another broadcaster was left mortified while reading the news.

Newsreader Lukwesa Burak was shocked when the camera suddenly cut back to the studio quicker than she had expected.

She had introduced a segment away from the studio, saying: "Around the world and across the UK, this is BBC News."

Viewers watched the BBC News logo flash up on the screen before the programme cut to footage of a crowd listening to a bagpipe player.

However, the screen prematurely cut back to the studio just as the newsreader lifted up both her arms, in what appeared to be a stretch, as she said: "Okay."

She immediately realised the camera had panned back to her live in the studio and she was left open-mouthed.

Lukwesa seemed to suppress laughter as she checked her days' notes.

The presenter sat in silence for 30 seconds before continuing with the programme but another technical blunder left viewers unable to hear what she was saying.

Eventually, viewers were able to hear Lukwesa as she read out: "One of our top stories on the programme and we've been monitoring a visit by Ukrainian President Zelensky in The Hague. We will bring you more of that shortly, here on BBC News.

"Also, bringing you more on the preparations from central London for King Charles III's Coronation which will be taking on Saturday."
