BBC mute It's A Sin clips for BAFTA TV Awards broadcast leaving fans angry as show 'snubbed'

Viewers have hit out at the BBC after clips of the night's leading nominee, It's A Sin, were cut during the BAFTA TV Awards broadcast.

When the nominations for this year's ceremony were announced at the end of March, the critically acclaimed and massively successful Channel 4 drama about the AIDS epidemic of the late 1980s and early 90s, led the way with 11 nominations, including nods in the Mini Series, Leading Actor and Supporting Acting categories. Ahead of the awards being dished out at London's Royal Festival Hall on Sunday evening , It's A Sin was expected to sweep the board.

And, as well as being upset at seeing its stars being beaten and the show itself losing out to Time for Mini Series, fans were confused and angry that when clips of the show were shown on screen, they were muted. Clips from It's A Sin, which aired on 9pm on Channel 4 on Friday nights, were shown at different points during the BAFTA TV Awards live show, which went out on the BBC from 6-8pm.

And, while appreciating the pre-watershed time slot, viewers were confused why other clips couldn't have been chosen. One tweeted: "Why are @BAFTA @BBC muting clips from #ItsASin ? They know what time this is going out, surely they can chose clips without swearing/offensive content?"

Equally disappointed, a second took to Twitter to react: "Thought my TV was on the blink as it keeps going silent when #itsasin clips are shown. Turns out the BBC are doing it," and another posted: "BBC STOP CUTTING OUT AMAZING ITS A SIN CLIPS."

BAFTA TV Award winners on the night included multiple award winners Stath Lets Flats and Big Zuu.
