BBC Gentleman Jack viewers worry over ending after penultimate episode

Gentleman Jack viewers are all saying the same thing following the penultimate episode of season 2. The second series of the popular period drama, which is based on the real-life diaries of Anne Lister, will come to an end on Sunday, May 29.

Season 3 of the BBC One drama, which is written by Sally Wainwright and stars Suranne Jones, Sophie Rundle and Lydia Leonard, is yet to be announced and viewers are predicting that series 2 final will end on a cliffhanger, despite no confirmation that the Gentleman Jack will be returning.

Following the penultimate episode, one fan wrote on Twitter: "Lots of tension between the Ann(e)s in Ep7. And we know they have another fight (at least one) in the last episode. Not feeling good about this. Are we headed for a cliffhanger? #GentlemanJack2 #GentlemanJack."

"Omg, this is my biggest fear," another fan responded. "But if it leads to season 3 I will endure it. #GentlemanJack."

While a third added: "Oh my god. I'm just coming to terms with the fact that there's only one episode to finish season two. Please don't give us a cliffhanger."

And a fourth said: "Sally will 100% leave S2 on a cliffhanger to encourage an S3 renewal and I am 100% not ready for it #GentlemanJack."

BBC and HBO are yet to confirm if there will be a season 3 of Gentleman Jack. The show originally launched in 2019 with season 2 kicking off in April 2022.

The final episode of the latest series will air on Sunday, May 29 at 9pm on BBC One and will be 10 minutes longer than usual. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
