Veteran BBC commentator Ian Dennis couldn’t help but take a backseat as he revelled in the atmosphere created by Nottingham Forest fans during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
There had already been a stirring rendition of Mull of Kintyre ahead of kick-off and the atmosphere didn’t relent during the game as the Reds took on the reigning Premier League champions. The Forest supporters stayed with their team throughout the contest, even as City dominated for long periods, and they were rewarded as substitute Chris Wood bagged a leveller inside the final 10 minutes.
For the remainder of the game, an already fervent support reached a crescendo, prompting Dennis to produce a spine-tingling piece of commentary with the City Ground in full voice.

In a clip shared on social media, FiveLive broadcaster Dennis said: “I’m just going to let you listen to this atmosphere and just let it soak in. It’s the type of atmosphere that sends a shiver down your spine. The red and white scarves are being swirled around their heads. Everyone is out of their seats. This is why Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in seven home games in the Premier League.”
Dennis, who has commentated around the world, later tweeted: “Forest fans today were outstanding. Supportive throughout and towards the end created an incredible atmosphere.”
A number of Forest fans replied to Dennis, with one tweeting: “It's funny how a lot of the 'top teams' suffer in our atmosphere. We've seen it twice with Liverpool, and now City. It's a pleasure and a privilege to be part of it. Our club is a collective, we accept as fans we also have a part to play and aren't merely spectators.”
Another said: “We want the City Ground to be a fortress and it certainly is. Can't underestimate how important the ‘12th’ man is.”
A third told Dennis: “I was lucky enough to be there today. Your words on this will stay with me for a long, long time, Ian. Come again soon.”
