BBC Chloe: Bristol drama confuses viewers who say they have 'no idea' what's going on

A brand new drama aired on BBC tonight, and if you're from Bristol then you'll recognise where it's filmed.

Chloe, a psychological thriller about parasocial relationships, is set in the city with venues like the Arnolfini and Royal West of England Academy in Clifton taking centre stage.

But tonight's episode left viewers far from satisfied, with some complaining they were confused by the storyline just minutes in.

Tonight we were introduced to Becky, played by The Crown's Erin Doherty.

Often comparing herself to picture-perfect lives on social media, Becky becomes obsessed with an Instagram account named Chloe.

Chloe suddenly dies and Becky adopts an alter ego called Sasha to infiltrate her group of close friends.

Just 20 minutes into the series, viewers couldn't keep up with the twists and turns.

"I can already tell that this programme #Chloe is going to make my head hurt," @ljmurison tweeted.

"So there are multiple timelines? #Chloe" asked @TheMainstand.

@bethsmirthwaite said: "This is so good but I’m totally confused by the storyline #Chloe."

Meanwhile others complained about the show's lighting.

@katebevan said: "I'm sure #Chloe is very good but it's so underlit it's hard to know what's happening."

@crackerjackpen added: "Is it my TV or was this filmed without lighting?"
