BBC called 'hopeless' by viewers over Mrs Brown’s Boys news

The BBC has been branded “hopeless” by viewers over this weekend's Mrs Brown’s Boys announcement.

The divisive series focuses on the antics of matriarch Agnes Brown, played by Brendan O’Carroll, who manages to find herself in the centre of her family and friends’ lives. Now, the BBC has confirmed that four new episodes of the sitcom will be airing for the first time since 2013.

Although the series is regularly scheduled on the festive programme every year, it has now marked a decade since a new series of the sitcom was released. Despite the BBC confirming that Mrs Brown’s Boys is finally making a return for a fourth mini-series, many onlookers are denouncing the show as being 'outdated', the Mirror reports.

The British broadcaster has incited backlash with the new episode announcement, with many disgruntled followers taking to Twitter to vent their anger. “Really? It stopped being funny part way through series 1,” @ mjCurnow commented beneath the announcement.

“I actually used to like Mrs Brown’s Boys, but it’s definitely run its course in my eyes. Shame BBC didn’t get that memo tho,” @ Mikepriestley1 3 wrote. @ Ady1975 hit back, adding: “They may as well just show 4 episodes of the test card or a funeral or two. That’d be funnier.”

@ Headsashed55 wrote on the site: “Seriously, this is the most unfunny programme I've ever seen, how have they not axed this yet”, while another commented: “The BBC continues to show just how hopeless it is these days.”

However, other fans of the comedy series were delighted with the news that a new season is underway. One person, @Liamfjournalist said: “Absolutely made-up. I actually don’t understand why so many people hate it? Maybe because they don’t like having a laugh? That’s my guess. Yes, the show hasn’t been at its best, but don’t write it off just yet…”.
