The BBC Breakfast studio was host to a tense row on Thursday as Naga Munchetty clashed with Jon Kay live on air.
The awkward argument kicked off as the duo were joined on the red sofa by sports correspondent Mike Bushell, and the conversation soon turned to Team GB’s performance in the Winter Olympics in Beijing ahead of the men’s curling semi-final against the USA.
“Team GB have a huge chance of guaranteeing a medal…” Mike began, prompting Naga to interrupt him, reminding him he’d said that before about the team’s chances of winning a medal.
“I know, A fair few times, but this is it because they do have their semi-final against the USA at lunchtime today,” Mike explained.
“Now the Brits have only lost one of their nine matches, and yes, that was to the USA,” he continued, as host Jon jokingly moaned: “Oh Mike, Mike!”
“But there's hope!" Mike insisted.
"They're in better form than they were in the Round Robin match because they're top of the group, their tails are up, they've got the form and momentum. Momentum is everything in sport!” he added.
But co-host Naga was less than impressed, and she began complaining to Mike about his ongoing optimism towards Team GB.
“Your narrative over the Winter Olympics has been fabulous - because in the early days it was, 'Naga - too early! You know, we started late last time, we did really well. It's too early Naga, hold your horses - don't be so impatient,'” she said.
“And then I think last week it was, ‘Well, there's hope!’ And what was it today?” she said, seemingly mocking Mike for his positive attitude.
“We're building up for a grand finale now,” he replied, as Naga sarcastically quoted him as she fired back: “‘Tails are up, there's hope!’ It's not that we don't want them to do brilliantly…”
But Mike insisted that if Team GB beat the USA this afternoon, then it’s all to play for, and they can finally end their medal drought.
“Get into that final and you're guaranteed gold or silver - it's there to be grabbed now! Seized!” Mike exclaimed.
But as Naga asked if Mike was returning tomorrow, Jon shut down his co-host, as the awkward exchange over the Winter Olympics came to an end.
“Oh no, Mike - don't! No, no, no, Mike - positivity and enthusiasm is what we all need!" he snapped.
