Dan Walker has been a popular figure on BBC Breakfast but after his exit from the morning show, a replacement had to be lined up. Viewers have been flooding presenter Sally Nugent with requests after a new host took to the red sofa - Sally was joined by Jon Kay.
It had been an emotional day for Sally on Tuesday, May 17, reported Manchester Evening News. Departing Dan almost pushed her to tears with his gushing leaving speech - and there were best bits, a reunion with former co-host Louise Minchin who left last year after 20 years with the BBC, and an appearance from his Strictly Come Dancing partner Nadiya Bychkova via video link.
Dan has left the show to join Channel 5's revamped 5 News. After giving his final speech, surrounded by the BBC Breakfast crew, and being spotted leaving the studio in MediaCity, Salford, with an inflatable lobster in a nod to his incredible journey on Strictly last year, it was all over and on Wednesday morning, it was business as usual.

Jon joined Sally on the sofa to bring BBC One viewers all the latest news headlines. It is reported the Beeb have a string of people who are will be stepping in to cover Dan for the time being, but no full-time replacement has been announced yet with the job currently being advertised.
But it seems that fans watching from home would like the 52-year-old journalist to host the BBC show full time. Sharing a selfie of the pair in the studio, Sally tweeted: "Morning everyone," and the comments were soon flooding in in support for Jon.
One viewer wrote: "Really hoping that this is a permanent appointment, they are both so good together and Jon such a great interviewer, he deserves this." Another replied: "Hope Jon gets the job full time, he has done the graft behind the scenes and would be a superb replacement for Dan, wish him luck."
The comments continued: "Great to see @jonkay01 on the sofa with you. I’m hoping that he gets the permanent spot." Another echoed: "Would be good if @jonkay01 replaces lovely Dan."
Someone else commented: "He is great, John Kay so you two can form another great partnership. Good luck for the future, watch every morning from here in Malta to keep up with everything in U.K." With another adding: "That’s definitely not Dan, good morning @sallynugent and @jonkay01."
