BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty replaced by co-star following 'mess of an interview'

Naga Munchetty was replaced by her co-star on the latest BBC Breakfast show on Saturday (April 8). The broadcaster was missing from her usual spot on the sofa with her co-host Charlie Stayt after leaving fans divided over an interview with shadow culture secretary Lucy Powell.

Charlie, who hosts with Naga on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, was joined by Nina Warhurst. Fans were thrilled to see Nina take on the role of BBC Breakfast host as one viewer tweeted: "Lovely to see you this morning," while another wrote: "Morning Nina. Looking beautiful as ever xx."

Another said: "Always enjoy it when you're presenting, so cheerful and obviously very intelligent. You also look fantastic this morning." On Good Friday, Naga confronted the shadow culture secretary over a controversial tweet posted by The Labour Party's official Twitter account, The Mirror reports.

The tweet read: "Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn't. Under the Tories, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under 16 served no prison time. Labour will lock up dangerous child abusers."

Quizzing the MP, Naga asked: "Do you believe that Rishi Sunak doesn't think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison?" Lucy replied: "Well look what I do know, Naga, that the figures that we’ve uncovered around those convicted with serious sexual assault are pretty startling."

The BBC Breakfast host continued to press the shadow culture secretary on whether she stood by the controversial tweet. She hit back: "Well, what I stand by is what that graphic is trying to show which is the prime minister of our country is in charge of the criminal justice system of this country and currently that criminal justice system is not working."

BBC Breakfast viewers criticised the interview as one fan tweeted: "What a mess of an interview," while a second added: "A complete and utter car crash!" "Not the first time has your style of aggressive journalism and 'interviewing' a political guest this morning made me want to turn off," said a third.

However, others disagreed as one shared: "Love nothing more than watching @TVNaga01 getting the point across when the interviewee can’t you’ve made my morning," and another agreed: "Excellent interview this morning with Lucy Powell this morning - polite but firm; had her wriggling like a worm on a hook!"
