BBC breakfast host Dan Walker reveals advice from Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker has revealed the advice Sir Alex Ferguson gave him after announcing he would be leaving the corporation.

Former Football Focus presenter Walker has been part of the BBC Breakfast line-up since 2016. The 45-year-old, though, announced last week he’s making the move to Channel 5, fronting their 5 News programme as a replacement for Sian Williams.

Walker’s departure from the BBC sees him follow other names, including the likes of Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis. His new role will see him hosting Channel 5’s News, as well as fronting a number of non-news shows.

Before heading off to his new job though, Walker got the chance to meet up with Ferguson at the last week’s Grand National at Aintree. The legendary Manchester United manager gave the presenter some valuable life advice as he prepares to make the move.

“I’ve had a long chat with Sir Alex Ferguson,” Walker told The Mirror. “It’s the first time I’ve seen him for a while and he looks very well.

“He’s given me career advice, which was lovely. He was talking about the move to Channel 5 and talking about life and accepting the next challenge.

"When he was moving to clubs, St Mirren, Aberdeen and all those sorts of things, it’s good to get advice from good people around you.

’I've known him for a long time. I’ve done all his book launches, I used to interview him every week when I worked in Manchester.

"When somebody who has had his fair share of challenges says to you, ‘Just go out there and do it, embrace it,’ that’s quite nice.”
