BBC Breakfast forced off air as alarm sounds in the middle of broadcast

BBC Breakfast came to a halt this morning, when the studio was evacuated as an alarm sounded, forcing the show off air.

The drama happened as the winner of the Apprentice, Harpreet Kaur, was being interviewed by Roger Johnson and Rachel Burden. Viewers watching at home could hear alarms in the background of the BBC One programme, with presenters apologising for the disruption and a orange BBC Breakfast screen being shown to animate the empty air-time.

Although the disruption forced a halt to the national breakfast show, the BBC's schedule seems to have returned to normal since - with Saturday Kitchen Live currently going ahead. This is because the two programmes take place in different studios reports Wales Online.

Rachel said as the alarm went off: "Ahh so we’ve been disturbed by an alarm which may mean that we have to slow things down for a moment.

“I’m so sorry everyone. For the time being we’re going to have to leave the studios. So we’ll see if we can come back before the end of the show."

Roger, added: “Thank you, enjoy what you’re doing for the rest of the day. I think we are going to have to go."

Some people were not happy about the speed of evacuation. One said: “BBC Breakfast setting a great example of how to act in an alarm. Act first question later!”

A second said: “BBC Breakfast showing a fond disregard for fire evacuation procedures there.”
