BBC blunder sees presenter say 'Boris Johnson has spent first night in prison'

Boris Johnson has been known to play tennis - as long as wealthy Russians with close ties to Putin are paying £160,000 for it

THE Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is a criminal who has been punished for breaking the law. That is an undisputed fact.

However, despite Boris Johnson’s behaviour, he has not received much more than a slap on the wrist in the form of a small fine. He definitely hasn’t been sent to prison.

Former Wimbledon champion Boris Becker however, has been.

The tennis ace turned commentator has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for hiding £2.5million worth of assets and loans to avoid paying his debts.

When announcing the news on Saturday morning, BBC presenter Naga Munchetty got the two blonde-topped law-breaking Borises a little mixed up.

“Boris Johnson has spent his first night in prison,” she told viewers.

The small slip was picked up by Twitter user Gary Panton, who quipped: “Turns out a lot has happened since I went to bed last night.

“As bad a Prime Minister as he is, you have to admit he was an absolute joy to watch on Centre Court.”

Johnson does play tennis – though he’s never won Wimbledon.

Instead, he picks up his racquet after accepting £160,000 donations to the Tory party from wives of close Putin allies.
