Bayern Munich president opens up on Ryan Gravenberch future amid Liverpool interest

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer is adamant Ryan Gravenberch will play more minutes next season.

The Dutchman was viewed as one of Europe’s top prospects when he arrived at the Allianz Arena last summer. Bayern fought off interest from Real Madrid and several Premier League clubs to sign him for around £20million.

At 21, Gravenberch arrived as a potential long-term stalwart for the Bundesliga heavyweights but suggesting the move has not worked out would be an understatement. Just three league starts in 2022-23 meant the youngster endured a frustrating debut campaign.

Gravenberch, linked with a move to Liverpool as part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield rebuild, went public earlier this year to express his discontent. He said: “In the beginning, of course, I had to get used to it here. A new environment. Everything goes so much faster, sometimes training sessions just feel like competitions.

“But I feel that getting used to it has been behind me for a while now. Training and playing at the top level for a year is beautiful and instructive. Although playing, it is mainly training. That has to change next season, then I really want to play weekly again.

“I haven't spoken to the club management yet, so just wait and see what happens. But it is clear that this role does not match my expectations.”

Fast forward to the present and Bayern supremo Hainer has opened up about Gravenberch’s situation.

The club president told German outlet Bild he remains certain the 21-year-old will play regularly next year.

“In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player,” Hainer said. “That’s why we brought him. He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”
