Bayern Munich director explains reasoning behind Marc Roca's Leeds United sale

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic claims Leeds United have got a 'really good player' in Marc Roca this summer. The new arrival at Elland Road has impressed during his short stint at the club.

The Spaniard arrived in Yorkshire very much an unknown quantity, but has received a glowing appraisal from the Bayern chief despite starting just ten games across two seasons in Germany. The arrival of Ryan Gravenberch pushed the 25-year-old further down the pecking order and a move to Leeds followed.

Now, Salihamidzic has revealed why the Bundesliga champions let Roca leave Germany this summer.

“Our income was down €120million [£104million] because of an empty Allianz Arena, and you can’t spend money you don’t have; we won’t take such risks,” he told The Times.

“We tried to get in players who didn’t pose a financial risk but made it possible to generate sales afterwards that allowed us to get some top players in.

“A player like Marc Roca might not have quite made it but he’s nevertheless a really good player, an interesting player, who’s a starter for Leeds United [now]."
