Bayern Munich confirm Robert Lewandowski transfer request amid Liverpool rumours

Bayern Munich director of football Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that striker Robert Lewandowski has lodged a transfer request and intends to leave the club in the summer.

Lewandowski has been with Bayern since 2014 and has scored 343 goals for the club in all competitions. However, he has been linked with a move away in recent months.

A recent report from Spain claimed that Lewandowski was a 'priority' for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of the summer window. While another recent report from Poland claimed that Lewandowski will complete a switch to Barcelona after discussions have been taking place.

And speaking ahead of Bayern’s final Bundesliga clash of the season against Wolfsburg, Salihamidzic revealed that Lewandowski has expressed his desire to depart the Allianz Arena. However, in the same interview, he reaffirmed the club’s opinion that they would not be forced into the sale.

"I spoke to Lewa. In the conversation, he told me that he did not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that he would like to leave the club,” he told Sky Germany.

"He said that he would like to do something else. But our attitude hasn't changed. Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. That's a fact. I don't deal with that because our stance has always been clear."

Speaking earlier this week, Bayern president Herbert Hainer claimed Lewandowski will not be allowed to leave the club this summer.

He said: “Robert Lewandowski has a contract with Bayern until June 2023 - and he will fulfil it.”
