A busy city street has been closed as the demolition of Nottingham's 'ugliest building' continues. The closure of Bath Street, Nottingham was due to start on Saturday, April 8 and end on April 16, but Nottingham City Council said it was closed prematurely after "concerns" were raised over the Bendigo building on the evening of Monday, April 3.
The city council explained its highways team hoped to reopen the road on Friday, April 7, before the planned eight day closure to enable the demolition of the former Royal Mail sorting office. The owner of the site, Bricks Group, was contacted for comment.
The Bendigo building, which has previously been labelled Nottingham's ugliest building, had stood vacant for 20 years but is currently being knocked down. Nottingham City Council passed plans for it to be replaced by a huge 13-storey student development in August 2021.
