Barton Highway re-opens after woman dies and man is seriously injured in two-car crash near Yass

A woman has died and a man has been seriously injured in a car crash on the Barton Highway at Yass this morning.

NSW Police said emergency services were called to the scene of a two-car crash near Gounyan Road about 6:15am.

One driver, a woman aged 38, died at the scene.

The occupant of the other vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was trapped in the car and had to be freed by Fire and Rescue NSW personnel.

He was flown to the Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The Barton Highway reopened to traffic after both lanes of the highway had been closed for most of the morning.

The area has been deemed a crime scene and will be examined by specialist forensic police.

NSW Police is urging any witnesses to the accident, including motorists with dashcam vision, to call Yass Police.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
