Barry Robson set for Cork title party nine months after Raith Rovers exit

Former Aberdeen and Raith Rovers boss Barry Robson is ready for a title party with Cork City, with his side set to win their league with seven games still to go.

The ex-Celtic and Scotland star was appointed as Cork boss in January after he was axed by the Kirkcaldy side.

His Cork City side are 20 points clear at the top of the Irish First Division and will clinch the title this week if they win at Bray Wanderers.

And the former Dundee United, Caley Thistle and Middlesbrough midfielder insists it will be a proud achievement to get Cork City back into the top flight of Irish football.

He said: "It’s never easy to win any league, believe me, I’ve been lucky enough to play in teams that won leagues and I know how tough it was.

"It’s so difficult, especially with the challenges we’ve had since I’ve come in here.

"We’ve relied on all the players that we had here before, they’ve been so good and deserve a huge amount of credit.

"We’ve still got a job to do - we need the players to perform and bring the proper attitude, which they have done every day from the minute I’ve walked in here.

"It’s a good, honest group of players but we need to go and perform to a high level for every game until the end of the season.

"Obviously we’re going to try to win this title, but every other team is fighting for something, so every game we’ve got is going to be a fight, even more so than it has been, so we need to be mindful of that."
