As the summer holidays continues and the weather remains warm many might be considering a trip to Barry Island to enjoy the seaside. This Sunday, August 7, is the Barry Island 10K and there will be road closures and congestion to consider when taking the trip to the beach.
The 10k route shows off some of the town's best views from Whitmore Bay to Romilly Park. The funs is not just for adults as there are also Junior Races that children can enjoy.

When is the Barry Island 10k?
The fun-filled Barry Island 10k is taking place on Sunday, August 7. The forecast for Saturday is predicting sunny intervals with a moderate breeze, reaching highs of 21 degrees so be sure to pack some water and sun cream if you are going along.
What time is the Barry Island 10k?
The Barry Island 10k will begin at 10am and will last until 2pm. The race will start and finish at Friars Road, Barry Island. Racers will have to assemble in pens before the race, which will be colour coordinated to their running bib, and the pens open at 9.45am.
The Junior Races will begin at 12.30pm first with the Toddler Dash, at 12.45pm the Future Challengers Miles, and the Fun Run beginning at 1.15pm. All of these races will also begin at Friars Road in Barry.
What roads will be closed?
Roads across Barry Island will be closed for different times during the day and race. Friars Road, the start and finish point for the race, will be closed all day.
Fford y Mileniwm is expected to be closed from 9.30am to 11am. Subway Road is expected to be closed from 9.30am to 11.10 am and Dock View Road is expected to be closed from 9.30am to 11.25am.
Broad Street is expected to be closed from 9.30am to 11.30am and Romilly Park Road is expected to be closed from 9.30am to 11.45am. Bron-Y-Mor and Lakeside are expected to be closed from 9.30am to 11.55am.
The Parade is expected to be closed from 9.45am to 12.05pm and Harbour Road is expected to be closed from 9.45am to 12.15pm. Paget Road will also be closed and these timings are based on a 10am race start. If the race starts late these timings will be extended.
What is the Barry Island 10k route?
The route will begin near the seafront at Whitmore Bay and take participants from the promenade through Barry’s regenerated retail area before arching around the iconic Barry Dock Offices building. After heading up Subway Road, runners will go down Broad Street, pass Barry Train Station, and head into the pretty Romilly Park.
Scenic views of the Bristol Channel and Porthkerry Country Park await runners from the 6K mark, before running alongside the picturesque Knapp pebble beach and Watch House Bay. Next, they’ll run up The Parade before heading back to the Island to take on the final 2K.
Runners will pass the roaring crowds before a loop of the amusement centre and a downhill finish alongside the gardens of Friars Road, overlooking Whitmore Bay.
