Barry Ferguson shuts down Rangers fan theory as Gio van Bronckhorst 'rumblings' given firm on air response

Defiant Barry Ferguson insists Gio van Bronckhorst will be Rangers manager beyond the summer - no matter what happens.

The pressure has been ramped up on the Dutchman in the wake of derby defeat to Celtic.

It's the first time the champions have been defeated at home by their rivals since 2019 with Ange Postecoglou's side boasting a six-point lead at the top of the Premiership.

With Celtic appearing to have one hand on the league title, it puts extra weight on the Scottish Cup semi-final showdown later this month as Rangers search for silverware.

Caller Derek put to The Go Radio Football Show panel that he had "heard rumblings" that Van Bronckhorst would be "done for" if Rangers suffered defeat at Hampden.

Ferguson bristled: "No, I can't see that, Derek. No way. Can't see it. Do you think that?

Derek went on: "Well, there are rumblings from certain sections of the fans, that seem not to like him."

"He's only had one window in January," Ferguson responded, "and we all know what the January window is like, it's a tough window.

"I think the summer is massive for Gio and speaking to him last week, he realises that.

"There are players he wants to extend contracts and there are players he's identified to make Rangers stronger and better so there's no doubt in my mind that he will be the manager at the start of next season.

"I know Gio and I expect a big turnaround in the summer."
