Barry Ferguson described Rangers' emphatic victory over Borussia Dortmund as one of the club's best nights on foreign soil as he revelled in their turnaround from an Old Firm defeat just over a fortnight ago.
The Light Blues legend was taken aback by his old team's display at the Westfalenstadion, which saw Gio van Bronckhorst's men put four past their Bundesliga opposition on their own patch.
Rangers appeared a different outfit from the one that was overwhelmed by Ange Postecoglou's Celtic a matter of weeks ago and Ferguson said that was testament to the management team.
"It’s only two weeks since this side got ripped apart at Celtic Park," he said in his Daily Record column.
"No one that night could have envisioned them getting a result in Germany the way they crumbled against Ange Postecoglou’s side.
"But the response since has been impressive. Four wins, 14 goals scored and only two conceded. Gio couldn’t have asked for any better.
"Everyone was waiting to see what would happen after the derby disaster, but from the first minute of that game against Hearts they’ve been bang at it and it all cumulated in another astonishing performance against Der BVB.
"Sometimes it’s easy when you get a sore one like that Old Firm beating to shut up shop and hide from the flak.
"But fair play to Gio and his team, it looks to me like they’ve taken on the criticism and responded in exactly the right manner by showing how much they all want to play for Rangers."
Dortmund were missing global superstar Erling Haaland through injury, the Norwegian striker watching on from the stands.
But Ferguson reckons that Rangers' efforts shouldn't be downplayed as a result.
He added: "Before Thursday, I thought Rangers just had to make sure they came back still in the tie at the very least.
"Dortmund may have been missing their main man Erling Haaland, but they still had some team.
"Mats Hummels is a World Cup winner, Marco Reus and Alex Witsel have 170 caps between them for Germany and Belgium respectively while Jude Bellingham is already an England regular at 18.
"But wow. What a night!
"I played in the team that beat Lyon three-zip in France, but Thursday is right up there among the best results Rangers have ever recorded on foreign soil.
"I don’t like to compare one win to another because let’s be honest, every win away in Europe is to be savoured.
"But you also can’t ignore the scale of that victory in North Rhine-Westphalia.
"Borussia Dortmund for me are a team that belongs in the latter stages of the Champions League, but I couldn’t believe what I was watching as Rangers blew them away on their own patch."
