Barry Ferguson makes Rangers vs Aberdeen penalty admission

Barry Ferguson admits Rangers "got away with one" against Aberdeen.

The former Ibrox skipper reckons Connor Goldson was lucky to escape scot-free after fouling Duk inside the box.

The Gers defender appeared to have both arms around the Dons forward, with the contact starting outside of the area but continuing into it.

The rule book states that in such cases, a spot kick should be given.

Barry Robson was left dumbfounded as to why VAR did not advise referee John Beaton to have a look at the incident and award a penalty.

The decision has received plenty of criticism, with pundits wondering why the ref or VAR couldn't see the foul.

And Ferguson admits his old team was lucky in this instance, as they ran out 1-0 winners from the game at Ibrox.

He told Go Radio: "He's got away with one, no doubt about it. It does start outside the box but it does finish inside the box.

"But he's bearhugging him, let's be honest. So I'm sure a lot of Rangers fans had their hearts in their mouths at that stage.

"In my eyes, when I watched it, it was definitely a foul. I'm unsure if it's a penalty. It's 100 per cent a foul and a booking. It does carry into the box but the start of the foul was outside.

"I was watching it with a smile on my face - why can you not see that's a foul? I didn't actually look at his position on the pitch but if he can't (see it) surely the VAR can?"

Asked if there was any explanation why it might have been missed, Fergie added: "That's the million dollar question. I don't know who's watching it. That's what baffles me about this, I don't understand."
