Barry Ferguson echoes Ally McCoist VAR scrap plea as Rangers decisions earn 'baffled' response

Barry Ferguson believes the decision to send off Callum Slattery for a flailing arm on Todd Cantwell was 'very harsh'.

The Rangers hero watched on as Michael Beale's side secured a big 4-2 victory after coming from behind to hand Stuart Kettlewell his first defeat at Fir Park. It was a dramatic afternoon as offside, penalties and red cards were all debated through VAR with Fashion Sakala's potential offside and a red card for midfielder Slattery irking Motherwell to the point of reportedly contacting the SFA over some decisions.

The technology was not shown in the best light at Celtic Park either as three penalty calls all came brutally under the microscope with a red card also awarded for Hibs man Elie Youan. Ange Postecoglou's men ran out 3-1 winners but the Leith hierarchy were also reportedly not pleased to the point of supremo Ben Kensell confronting match official Steven McLean.

And Ferguson has echoed the sentiments of fellow Rangers hero Ally McCoist who earlier made an incredible U-turn and admitted VAR was 'driving him crazy'.

He told Go Radio: "This has got to have been the worst weekend in terms of decisions. I can't disagree. I would be more than happy if it was pulled.

"I thought the two VAR decisions in terms of offside should have been off. But when the lines are drawn you see they're onside but clearly when I was watching at speed it was different. To the naked eye both looked offside.

"The Slattery decision - I know that never went to VAR - but the call was very harsh.

"It was a flick of the hand which you naturally do as a player to protect the ball. The reaction, going by the referee he's thought it was an elbow but he was close enough to see it wasn't. It was never a booking.

"Some of the decisions this weekend absolutely baffled me."

On the Celtic decisions, he added: "It's not a penalty. They're no penalties. That's all I can say.

"I don't see where the referees think - and he actually goes to the monitor - that's a penalty for. Then Youan has two bookings that are never bookings."
