Barry Ferguson has confessed that Celtic star Jota is the best player in Scotland so far this season as he shut down Kris Boyd's support for Rangers stars.
Boyd has previously named Alfredo Morelos as the best player in the Scottish Premiership and has also tipped Ryan Kent for the crown while on punditry duties for Sky Sports during the early part of the campaign. James McFadden pulled the former Ibrox striker up for his take live on TV following Jota's sensational strike against Kilmarnock, with the Scotland hero tipped the Portuguese winger as the best of the talent this term.
Former Rangers skipper Ferguson admitted he couldn't back former teammate Boyd over any Rangers player seeing off the Celtic star based on his performances so far this season. However, he reckons there is still plenty of time for other player's to overcome Jota in the Player of The Year running.
When asked about Boyd and McFadden's on-air tiff on The Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson said: "After three games, it's easy for me to say it's Jota with the way he has started with his goals and assists. But, we are only three games in.
"There is another 35 games. It could be Kyogo, it could be Callum McGregor, Morelos, Kent, Tillman, who again impressed at the weekend. I think there is a long way to go before we decide the best player in Scotland.
'At this early stage Jota has got off to an absolute flier."
